FAQs

Here is a listing of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) from our customers:

Applicable Pets

Wireless Whiskers® is designed for all cats and small dogs up to 18 Inches tall (floor to top of head). The feeder will not work for larger pets.

Food Types

Food Types

The feeder will work with dry food only. Wet/moist Cat or Dog foods are not suitable due to spoiling. Kibble size of 1/3 inch or less is recommended as large diameters have more friction and do not flow well in any feeder. The feeder wil hold only one food type. Additional feeders are required to Control Access to different food types.

Agressive Cat pushes head of other cat into bowl

What if a Greedy Pet pushes a timid one out?

If one pet pushes another out, then the feeder will instantly detect the new pet’s tag and start accruing against their allowance. If the new pet has no available allowance or is locked out: the feeder doors will shut. The open doors form a trough only big enough for one head, so pets cannot feed at the same time. The feeder makes sure each pet gets their fair share, so you don’t have to.

How big is the feeder?

The feeder measures approximately 16 x 9 x 16 in. (l x w x h) and holds about 5 lbs of dry food.

Certifications and Quality

Wireless Whiskers® meets the highest quality standards and is CE, FCC, ETSI and IC certified and Lab tested. Our feeder is frequently recommended by vetinarians to solve difficult feeding situations and for maintainance and weight loss.

My pet won't wear a collar

This is a common misconception of many pet owners. The issue is one of patience. If you give your pet time to adjust they will accept a collar. The trick is not to interfere with them or try to “help”. The process takes a few minutes to a few days depending on the pet. If you are not sure, tryout any collar before buying the feeder. The wireless tag is light weighing only 0.2 ounces (5g), and is never an issue. With a little patience you will be pleasantly surprised and your life will be changed by taking you out of the feeding cycle forever.

Gourging and vomiting

Some pets gourge food until they vomit. The feeder solves this problem with the Portion Control setting which divides the day into portions and releases the allowance a little at a time during the day according one of 5 selectable programs.

Do pets need to wear a wireless tags?

It depends on how you want the feeder to work. If a pet has no wireless tag the feeder can be used in the Default Open door control mode to allow the pet unlimited food access. If the Default Shut mode is selected any pet without a tag will be locked out. If a pet wears a tag you can either lock it out or set an allowance as you wish. This works in both Default Open and Default Shut modes giving you the most flexibility in access and allowance control. If a tag is worn the doors will shut whenever a pet reaches its allowance or if it is locked out.

Will it work with implanted chips?

No. Implanted chips are fine for intermittent detection in simple applications such as cat flaps and single meal bowls, but are not reliable enough for continous detection required for measuring how much a pet eat and other advanced features. They do not interfere with the feeder operation.

Allergy Symbol

Allergies to Plastics

Some pets are allergic to certain plastics. However pets are NOT allergic to ALL plastics. The plastics that cause allergy problems contain BPA or BHT, especially PVC and some other plastics. Our feeder is made from ABS which does not contain these chemicals and is used for human medical and food devices and is proven very safe. ABS also has a hard surface that does not flake or dissolve into your pet’s food, as do soft plastics.

There are many potential items in homes that can cause pet allergies, even some pet foods contain these chemicals. Products that contain them include: pet baskets, toys, brushes, water bowls, litter boxes, climbing trees, carpeting, etc.. these can all contain plastics with BPA or BHT. Identifying the source of these allergen requires a systematic approach of removing or restricting these items until the culprit is found.

Color of Wireless Tags

Do the tags have to be different colors?
No. The tags have a RFID chip inside with more than 100 billion codes. The tags will not interfere regardless of color or use on multiple feeders. The tag color is a fashion choice.

Can you set different allowances for pets

Yes. One feeder can set the allowance for between 1 and 8 pets eating the same food type. Additional feeders are required for each extra food type.

Wireless Whiskers AI AutoDiet Feeder
Universal Voltage Power Adapter (100-240V) US Plug Pins

Batteries / Voltage

The feeder operates using a universal voltage (100-240V) power adapter (with US plug pins) and also can optionally operate on 4 D size alkali batteries, which is recommended for backup in case of power loss. The wireless tags do not require batteries and have no servicable parts. They obtain their from the feeder energy similar to a wireless charger. If your region uses non US power outlets, you will need a pin adapter to convert the US pins to your local pin type. These are readily available at any hardware store or on E-Bay.

How strong is the feeder?

The feeder is very strong. The doors and feed tube are made from polycarbonate (the same material used in bulletproof glass) and cannot be damaged by your pet. The feed tube is held onto the body with steel thumbscrews and cannot be knocked off. The cover requires thumbs to remove.
